European Film Awards: ‘Emilia Pérez’ Dominates 37th Edition

Jacques Audiard’s musical crime drama claims Best Film, Director, Screenwriter and Actress for Carla Sofia Gascón at star-studded Lucerne gala.

The European Film Academy unveiled the winners of the 37th European Film Awards on Saturday night at the Culture and Convention Center Lucerne (KKL Luzern) in Switzerland. Held before an audience of 1,000 guests, nominees, and presenters, the ceremony recognized excellence in European cinema across 22 categories and was broadcast live in 18 countries via 30 media partners.

Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez” led the night, taking home four awards including European Film, European Director, and European Screenwriter, as well as European Actress for Carla Sofia Gascón. The French production was produced by Pascal Caucheteux, Audiard, Valérie Schermann, and Anthony Vaccarello.

In the European Documentary category, “No Other Land” — directed by Basel Adra, Yuval Abraham, Hamdan Ballal, and Rachel Szor — was honored. The Palestine-Norway co-production had received critical attention throughout the year.

Gints Zilbalodis' “Flow,” a co-production from Latvia, France, and Belgium, was awarded European Animated Feature Film.

The European Short Film – Prix Vimeo went to “The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent” by Nebojša Slijepčević, which previously won the Short Film Palme d’Or at Cannes.

The European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI, presented to a debut feature filmmaker, was awarded to “Armand,” directed by Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel and produced across Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden.

In the acting categories, Abou Sangaré won European Actor for his performance in “Souleymane’s Story,” which also picked up the award for European Sound (Marc-Olivier Brullé, Pierre Bariaud, Charlotte Butrak, Samuel Aïchoun, Rodrigo Diaz).

The European Young Audience Award was given to “The Remarkable Life of Ibelin,” directed by Benjamin Ree.

Lifetime achievement honors were presented to Wim Wenders, while Isabella Rossellini received the European Achievement in World Cinema award. The Eurimages International Co-Production Award was presented to Labina Mitevska.

    Bryan Jones, Pierre Procoudine-Gorsky, Chervin Shafaghi, Guillaume Le Gouez (The Substance)

The awards are organized by the European Film Academy and European Film Academy Productions.
