The European Film Academy and FILMFEST HAMBURG have unveiled the five films nominated for the 2024 European University Film Award (EUFA). The nominees, drawn from the 2024 European Film Awards Feature and Documentary Film Selections, represent a mix of emerging and established European voices.
The lineup includes Dea Kulumbegashvili’s “April,” produced by Luca Guadagnino and David Zerat, and Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel’s “Armand,” alongside “Kneecap” from director Rich Peppiatt, co-written with JJ Ó Dochartaigh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh. Also nominated are Kurdwin Ayub’s “Moon,” produced by Ulrich Seidl, and Emanuel Pârvu’s “Three Kilometres to the End of the World,” co-written with Miruna Berescu.
Launched in 2016, the EUFA engages students from 23 universities across Europe, who will screen, discuss, and vote on the nominees. A representative from each university will participate in a three-day final deliberation in Hamburg to determine the winner.
The EUFA winner will be announced on Dec. 6, ahead of the 37th European Film Awards ceremony in Lucerne, Switzerland, on Dec. 7.
